The Day Gogo Went to Vote: South Africa, April 1994

Thembi and her great-grandmother, Gogo, are inseparable. Gogo is so old, she hasn't left the house in years. One day Thembi's parents come home and announce that black South Africans will be allowed to vote for the first time in a government election, and the whole family is astounded when Gogo says she will go out and cast her vote, too. And she insists on bringing Thembi with her!

A picture book like this, which evokes the spirit of an historic occasion as seen through the eyes of a child, is an inspiring and moving testament to the strength and courage of the South African people. ~ Nelson Mandela.
