The intergalactic adventures of Arthur Dent begin in the first volume of the 'trilogy of five', Douglas Adams' comedy sci-fi classic The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This edition features additional material and a foreword by Russell T Davies.

On 12 October 1979 the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor (and Earth) was made available to humanity - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

It's an ordinary Thursday lunchtime for Arthur Dent until his house gets demolished. The Earth follows shortly afterwards to make way for a new hyperspace bypass and his best friend has just announced that he's an alien. At this moment, they're hurtling through space with nothing but their towels and an innocuous-looking book inscribed with the big, friendly words: DON'T PANIC.

The weekend has only just begun . . .

You won't want to put this book down!

An amazing read! Reading this a child made me laugh uncontrollably at how ridiculous this book pushes its limits of whacky and unpredictable, whilst still being so interesting, that you'll forget where the time went! I love books such as these set in space, where it allows the author to have little to no restrictions in how they would want to convey the environment. I have always been one who prefers much more serious novels, but this just felt like a breathe of fresh air!

Wonderful

The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is an extremely interesting read. The author’s use of intriguing characters, creative and witty dialog creates a wonderful fantasy. The book was well written and with the addition of brilliant comedic moments made it a pleasure to read. Would definitely recommend to teen readers.

One of the best sci-fi novels of it's time

This book really lives up to its status in science fiction. It's everything you could want out of the new age of sci-fi, it's hilarious, clever but with just the right amount of seriousness and existentialism to keep it from being a joke, and a must-read for any fans of the Discworld series or Doctor Who.

Funny and unexpected

The first time I picked this book up, I thought it seemed like the author was trying too hard to be funny, and was failing. As I continued reading, I was lured in by a sense of humour that seems surface at first glance, but is actually deeply funny, cynical, and magical at the same time. If you enjoy science fiction and having your mind blown, then I can't recommend this wacky series enough.
