Loud Explosions Silent Cries

This upcoming event at Bridge Books presents a powerful live reading from Loud Explosions, Silenced Cries: Reflections on the War in Gaza, a touching 2025 anthology edited by veteran educator Mark Potterton. This collection brings together a diverse group of South African scholars, activists, and writers—including Salim Vally Mokesh Morar, Deidre Byrne, Jennifer Roberts, Justin Blackensee, Julie Dawjee, and Jessica Sherman —to explore the deep-seated parallels between South Africa’s history of struggle and the current humanitarian crisis in Palestine. Through a moving blend of poetry and prose, these contributors move beyond the headlines to amplify the "silenced cries" of the conflict, offering a space for moral reflection, empathy, and a celebration of the enduring spirit of resistance that connects these two global movements for justice.
