Bridge Books was founded in 2016 by Griffin Shea, as an inclusive literary art and cultural organisation. In the heart of the city’s historic centre, we celebrate Johannesburg’s distinctive literary legacy. Our neighbourhood is home to 70 booksellers and the world-renowned collection of 1.5 million books in the City Library.

Our bookstore specialises in African literature and has three floors of books in the Commissioner Street shopfront at the Rand Club. We sell new and preloved books, and our loft contains a children’s book section with stories in all 11 of South Africa’s official languages.
