Under the feckless husbandry of Mr Jones, the Manor Farm has fallen into disrepair. Pushed into hardship, the animals decide to stage a revolt, and, led by two young pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, they overthrow Mr Jones and drive him away from the farm. In the subsequent struggle for power, it is Napoleon who emerges as a victor: he renames the place “Animal Farm”, gets rid of his enemies and, by the way he behaves – expecting to be glorifi ed above the others and turning the screw on his fellow beasts in order to keep them subjugated – begins to resemble more and more the former rulers of the farm, the hated humans.

Written during the Second World War and published in 1945, this allegorical novel is a carefully constructed critique of the Russian Revolution and a sharp satire on the abuse of power. It remains unsurpassed both as a document of its time and as a testament to the versatility and creative genius of George Orwell.

Excellent Read!!

This is one of my favourite books I have ever read as part of my high school readings. I can still vividly remember how engaging the book is and how Orwell is able to give animals human qualities that makes the reader eliminate the fact that the book is mainly and mostly written from the animals perspective. This book is about how a group of animals were treated and they rebel against their human owner/farmer. As they do this, they give us (the readers) their hope of wanting to live in peace and are treated equal amongst each other. They also want to live freely and feel like they are caged inside their farm. This is an excellent book and I fully recommend it. I will definitely be reading to my future children.

Animal farm

This book is old but gold. One of the best books I have read that fits in perfectly to society. The complexity of the characters makes this book very deep and interesting to read. This book also gives people insight into their own lives. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

Animal Farm

This dystopian novel written by George Orwell was originally published England on 17 August 1945. This is the story of a set of animals who overthrow their human-owner. This was a well executed novel which I absolutely enjoyed. . People will still be reading this in a thousand years time, when communism is just a footnote.

Animal Farm Review

In grade 11, I read Animal Farm and it turned out to be one of those books that you think will be boring, but is actually quite enjoyable. There can be no doubt that George Orwell's Animal Farm is one of the greatest short stories ever written in English. It is a deceptively simple tale that can even be read by older children. In the style of a fable, it tells the story of an animal revolt, but there are so many levels to it. A satire and an allegory, it is clearly both. Very prophetic to the current South African political climate in my opinion. Nailed it Orwell.
