Fred Khumalo’s debut isiZulu fiction title, uManzekhofi nezaKhe is a witty and whimsical collection of interconnected short stories that centre around a house-cat, Manzekhofi, and the Sibiya household he lives in.
Inspired by Geraldine Elliott’s The Long Grass Whispers, uManzekhofi nezaKhe is a book written to entertain a new generation of readers with Fred Khumalo’s renowned and timeless humour and his insight into current-day South Africa.
Fred Khumalo is best known as an award-winning journalist and author. In particular his English novels Seven Steps to Heaven, Bitches’ Brew, Dancing the Death Drill have all received critical acclaim.
Kwakungcono eGibhithe, a short story contained in uManzekhofi nezaKhe was published in 2017 in the isiZulu speculative fiction anthology, Izinkanyezi Ezintsha by Kwasukela Books, and was featured on the Johannesburg Review of Books.
uManzekhofi nezaKhe contains 13 short stories and is 136 pages long. It will retail with an RRP of R170. The cover illustration has been made by Fred’s son, Vusisizwe Sineke Khumalo, whose illustrations often accompany Fred’s columns in the Sowetan.
