This is South African writer Jack Cope's own selection of his short stories, drawn from three earlier out-of-print collections plus previously unpublished work. The stories reflect what New Africa Books' description calls his "warm empathy with people young and old, and with animals," and his conviction that fiction "must always be experience and not fancy; real faces, real voices, smells, colours" — vivid, closely observed depictions of southern African life.
