Shadow Chasers: Powers of the Knife (Book 1)
"What if you discovered that you come from an ancient family of Shadow Chasers, with a duty to protect others from an evil Army of Shadows?"
Nom is an outsider at school. When she and Zithembe become friends, life still seems, well, a little ordinary. But when an army of monsters threatens their world, it’s all up to the two of them … and the start of a journey into the dreamworld on a quest that will change their lives.
Powers Of The Knife is the first book in the Shadow Chasers trilogy. It’s an African fantasy adventure - one part family saga, one part hero’s quest.

"Powers of the knife", is the perfect book for new readers. Being the first book in the sequel it is fast-paced, fun, and sparks creativity all while drawing in and engaging the reader. The book dives into the world of magical powers and monsters, creating an adventure for the reader. I would highly recommend this book to young new readers.
I really enjoyed this book when i was younger. This fantastic supernatural adventure with an Afrocentric focus is catered to children between the ages of 9 and 12. It's exhilarating, action-packed, and moody. Because of their intelligence and bravery, Nom and Zee realize they must confront the "monsters" when strange things begin happening to the adults in their village.
I loved these young teen fantasies (this is the first in a series) that are filled with African mythology like Mami Wata, the Tathe Vondo forest as a magical place, and healing plants and herbs. The books are very short but fun and fast paced, and I would recommend them for kids from age 8 to about 10.
