In 1956 the reserves of the Western Transvaal erupted in rebellion, as the imposition of Bantu Authorities and the expropriation of two 'black spots' met with widespread resistance by the local people. At the same time women refused to accept the introduction of passes. Little of this rural revolt was reported by the media and little would be known today but the record of one remarkable book.
