Herman Charles Bosman is one of South Africa's most acclaimed short story writers and his books are pre-eminent in the field of South African literature. Jacaranda in the Night is his first novel and is Bosman's response to the time he spent as editor in Pietersburg. In this novel he depicts the people of the imaginary Northern Transvaal town Kalvyn, their foibles and convictions. Almost forgotten for many years, the novel offers a reading experience not to be forgotten.

Jacaranda in the Night is part of a series of eight Herman Charles Bosman titles reissued in a uniform edition by Human & Rousseau. The other titles are Unto Dust, Jurie Steyn's Post Office, Mafeking Road, A Cask of Jerepigo, Willemsdorp, A Bekkersdal Marathon and Cold Stone Jug.
