Herman Charles Bosman is one of South Africa's most acclaimed short story writers and his books are pre-eminent in the field of South African literature. Jacaranda in the Night is his first novel and is Bosman's response to the time he spent as editor in Pietersburg. In this novel he depicts the people of the imaginary Northern Transvaal town Kalvyn, their foibles and convictions.
