Ladysmith: The Siege, by Lewis Childs

Victorious Boer mounted troops bottled up a substantial British force in the town of Ladysmith in October 1899. Numerous battles were fought in succeeding months by British relief columns unsuccessfully attempting to raise the siege. While British troops on the outside using outmoded tactics were falling victim to Boer marksmen, the soldiers and civilians within besieged Ladysmith were displaying remarkable ingenuity.
