John Peel (or JDYP, as he often signed himself) wrote regularly to his family and friends during his visits to be with his partner, and subsequent wife, Anne Ogbigbo, on her postings as Human Rights officer in the Grand Cape Mount region of Liberia.
Intended as semi-public documents, blending personal news with current events, the letters are vivid reminders of John's engaged and engaging curiosity, zest for life, and sympathy for human foibles everywhere, and notably in West Africa.
