Our World: AIDS and Childhood in southern Africa
Our World: AIDS and Childhood in southern Africa
Fourteen children, whose lives have all been affected by the AIDS pandemic, contributed their words and pictures to this book. Half of them live in Soweto, a sprawling township outside Johannesburg, South Africa's economic hub, while the other half are from Tzaneen, a rural district in the northern province of Limpopo.
Each child was given a disposable camera, some basic instruction on how to use it, and then simply asked to photograph the world as they see it. They were also asked to write answers to four questions: What makes you happy? What makes you sad? What do you wish for? What would you like people to know about your life?
