Herman Charles Bosman is one of South Africa's most acclaimed short story writers and his books are pre-eminent in the field of South African literature.

This collection of 24 short stories was first published in 1963, twelve years after Bosman's death. Set in the vast expanse of veld known as the Great Marico, they evocatively capture the spirit, humanity and lifestyle of the Afrikaners of an earlier era.

Unto Dust is part of a series of eight Herman Charles Bosman titles reissued in a uniform edition by Human & Rousseau. The other titles are Mafeking Road, Jurie Steyn's Post Office, A Bekkersdal Marathon, A Cask of Jerepigo, Jacaranda in the Night, Willemsdorp and Cold Stone Jug.
