Consignment

Consignment is for zines, posters, small books and short print runs. You leave a few copies with us, we sell them in our shop at the Barbican, 89 Helen Joseph Street, Johannesburg, and on bridgebooks.co.za, and we pay you when they sell.

Consignment titles aren't sold wholesale, and we don't offer them to other bookshops. If you want your book available to bookshops, schools and libraries, see EasyBooks instead.

How it works

  • Bring up to five copies of each title, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
  • Tell us your recommended retail price.
  • There's no deposit and no storage fee.
  • We keep 35% of the selling price excluding VAT. The rest is yours.

Statements and payouts

You get a statement by the 7th of each month covering the previous month's sales, and your payout follows by EFT by the 15th.

The 180-day rule

We hold consignment stock for 180 days. If a title has made no sales in that time, we'll ask you to collect it within 30 days. Stock left after 30 days may be donated or disposed of, with no payment to you. Titles that are selling can stay on for further 180-day periods, if we have space.

What we sell

We welcome work from every community and every point of view, including work that is uncomfortable or controversial. We don't sell anything that promotes hatred. Read our ethics statement.
