Fifteen-year-old Patson Moyo and his family arrive in the Marange diamond fields with hopes of a better life. Soon Patson is working in the mines with four friends in the Gwejana Syndicate, teen diamond miners secretly pooling their profits and hoping to find the stone that will change everything. When government soldiers come to Marange, his world is shattered. Set in Zimbabwe under Mugabe, it follows a young man who succumbs to greed and finds his way out through a journey to South Africa in search of his missing sister, of freedom, and of himself.
