Echoes of the Mountain , by Phindile Mgijima-Mabhena
Echoes of the mountains is a story dedicated to what she calls “The Unspoken Champions”, who suffered and contributed to the liberation of our beautiful country in one way or the other or by just being alive in the darkest period of our beautiful land. The memoir is also about how she continues to heal from the loss of seven family members.
Being the last born in a family of seven children, Pindiwe experienced all her siblings either leaving South Africa or while those who remained were in and out of prison including, Robben Island. The last to leave was her parents, who made Lesotho their temporary home during the difficult times of the struggle.
In her book, she tells the story of her parents and how her family was separated from each other. She shares how her family sacrificed their lives to join the struggle against Apartheid.
