Comrade Mzala: A Cousin in the Struggle, by Sandile Memela

Sandile Memela's historical narrative traces the life of Jabulani "Mzala" Nxumalo, born in 1955 in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal, who was detained as a teenager during school boycotts before going into exile and training with Umkhonto we Sizwe. An adherent of Black Consciousness, Nxumalo became a leading struggle intellectual, receiving military training in the Soviet Union and East Germany, and died in London in 1991 at age 35; the book is structured around characters investigating his legacy.
