National Women's Day is commemorated on 09 August every year in South Africa. It is a day to remember the important role that women play in society. It also recognises what women have achieved in spite of the difficulties they face.
It was on this day in 1995 that thousands of women protested against unjust laws in South Africa. This book explains the importance of this day in the history of the country and in the creation of a new, democratic South Africa.
This is the fifth book in a series of seven that explores important days in the history of South Africa. Other titles include Human Rights Day (21 March), Freedom Day (27 April), Worker's Day (1 May) and Youth Day (16 June).
