Both books cover nutrition in relationship to lifestyles, exercise habits, and personal characteristics. Coleman's approach to nutrition and its influence on endurance and personal health is concise and to the point. She discusses basic concepts of oxygen usage, obtaining fuel from food, and meeting nutritional needs. Her sections on carbohydrate loading, caffeine usage, and weight loss are informative and valuable. An excellent book for the layperson who wants to understand the relationship between eating and personal health, and for the athlete who wants to optimize endurance performance. Wooton covers basically the same topics but in greater depth and with scientific documentation. Her chapters on converting food to energy and energy to muscular activity are technical and probably beyond the casual reader. An excellent resource on nutrition with informative charts and glossary, this superior book should be required reading for every athlete and coach.
