One for the Devil is a novel written by South African author Etienne Leroux. Originally published in Afrikaans as Een vir Azazel, it was later translated into English by Charles Eglington. The book offers a surrealistic portrait of a sterile civilization grappling with a primeval force. While the character Lennie in Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men died with more humanity, Leroux’s work is a powerful exploration of contrasting elements.
