Just a few miles away from the sunny beaches and luxury hotels of the Cape Peninsula of South Africa lies Robben Island. It is the site of one of the harshest political prisons in the world, where South Africa holds the most dangerous resisters to its racist apartheid system.
Freedom-fighter Indres Naidoo, a "Coloured" of Indian ancestry and a member of the African National Congress o South Africa, served a ten-year sentence on Robben Island as result of his political activities. Robben Island is his story, as he himself tells it: the only full-scale first-hand account of life in the prison, a school for revolution in South Africa today.
