associated hadzehold names in South Africa. Since 1963 when Bosman's collections of short stories were re-publisned than 200 000 copies of mis have been sold. And since Hatrips Mynhardt presented the first of approximately 2 000 one-man shows on Bosman's writings in 1969 about one million people all over South Africa, South West Africa, Zimbabwe and Swaziland have come to love the Bosman characters, like the famous Oom Schalk Lourens, the seemingly simple old Boer from the Marico district, who is really the embodiment of sly humour.
Roy Campbell wrote to Bosman:
"This is just to say that I think your stories... are the best that ever came out of South Africa"; and he calls Oom Schalk "the greatest story-teller ever"
