In the first play, The Trails of Brother Jero, the charlatan preacher, burdened by a cross " daughter of Eve", uses Christian superstition for his own salvation. In the sequel, Jero's Metamorphosis, the profit-minded "prophet" thwarts a government attempt to cleanse the beach of all dubious brethren who ply their trade there.
