The Owl and the Moon, by Peter Strauss (used)
The Owl and the Moon, by Peter Strauss (used)
The owl is death and parting on occasion, but also good darkness and deep sounds; the moon, round and honey-coloured, is a woman. All kinds of well-loved female characters appear in these poems: friends and relations, an adopted abandoned child more wandering spirit than possible reality, a labrador puppy. What love and death make up between them (in this book, anyway) is memory - nostalgia - and its problematic ambivalence. If a book has to be about something, then that is what this one is about.
